The National Trust, Dunster Castle, Somerset.

The National Trust Dunster CastleIn 2016, I was invited by the National Trust marketing team at Dunster Castle in Somerset to offer ideas about illustrating a children’s activity book. The project which was called ‘A Trail of Tales’, was just that; a trail around the castle grounds highlighting the site’s rich history in a fun kind of way, and to help children find out about the aristocratic Luttrell family who once lived there. Several ideas for the booklet’s style were suggested; a ‘Famous Five’ concept, even a ‘Horrible Histories’ approach. In the end we all agreed that the illustrations would be most engaging for children if they were given a resemblance to the style of the great illustrator Quentin Blake whose energetic pictures grace the Roald Dahl books. What follows is a selection of the watercolour drawings I prepared for publication.

The spin off to completing this assignment was that I was honoured to be appointed an Approved Illustrator for the National Trust.
